Discovery Interactive Atlas

Monday, November 19th, 2007

Inspired by Discovery Channel’s landmark Atlas series, Discovery Education™ streaming gives you a unique video guide to our world. Featuring exclusive clips from Discovery’s Atlas series, this interactive map provides thousands of videos that show off the wonders of countries ranging from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe. Zoom in to each country and learn about its culture, government, history and the natural world.
The Atlas is especially useful if you have an interactive white board. With an interactive white board you can have your students touch different parts of the world and see videos related to the country and its culture, history, government, or natural world.

If you are using Assignment Builder you can… Right-click on the Discovery Atlas Interactive link and in Firefox “copy link location” or in IE “Copy Shortcut.” Then open up the Assignment Builder and create an Assignment. In the add web links section, paste the link.

Google Earth and unitedstreaming ™

Thursday, July 12th, 2007

Google Earth allows educators to add elements of satellite photography, world geography, locations, and images to the instructional lessons. Teachers can create Placemarks on the Google Earth map. Once the Placemarks are created, teachers can log into unitedstreaming and search for a video segment. Once the clip has been selected, a shortcut of it can be copied and pasted into the Placemark. The student can then access a video clip of the location they are exploring in Google Earth.
