Great Choices Student Film Festival 2009

Announcing a statewide high school student film festival!  “Great Choices” is targeting Character Education, Diversity, and Healthy Lifestyles.  Meijer Inc., the Meijer Family Foundation, the M.E. Davenport Foundation, and the Van Singel Fine Arts Center in Byron Center Michigan, are sponsoring a statewide film festival open to all Michigan high school students to create  PSA’s promoting “GREAT CHOICES” in:

This invitation is extended all our talented high school (public, private schools, charters, and home schools) youth to compete in a focused student film festival that will impact our youth K-12.   In addition, the deadline is extended to March 16, 2009!

The top ten PSA’s in each category for two target audiences (K-6 and 7-12) will be honored and winning PSA’s will be copied for statewide use in schools, Meijer stores, and for media use.  That’s 60 winning PSA’s!  With the support of Meijer, M.E. Davenport FoundationVan Singel Fine Arts Center , and others, they are able to offer more than $20,000 in prize awards!

Free Book: The Public Domain

In James Boyle’s new book, The Public Domain: Enclosing the Commons of Mind, the “sealed crustless sandwich” is just one example of patent gone awry.  Boyle argues that current law is making it harder and harder to share information and ideas to the detriment of the culture at large.  His book is available for free online at http://www.thepublicdomain.org/download/

 

StoryTubes Project

Do you know about the StoryTubes project?  Students can upload their own video that tells about a favorite book.  They can even win prizes, and it is for grades K-12.
